1 Young Generation

Nourishing young minds

We are tackling child hunger head-on, ensuring every child receives a nutritious school meal, every day.

At one Young Generation, no child in Mpigi goes hungry at school. We provide life-changing school meals, empowering Young minds and brighter future.

We offer lunch meals to school going children in rural areas.

In order to make the service affordable to the parents, we offer 50% contribution of the school meals fee, there by increasing the chances of children accessing lunch to school.

By reducing meal costs for parents, their children are able to concentrate in classes and ruduce the rate of dropouts by 20% hence reducing hunger by 30%.

By nurturing Young bodies, we empower children in Mpigi to reach their full potential.

According to Uganda Radio Network

In Mpigi District there are 40,000 school going children and out of them 28,000 dont have access to school meals which makes it 70%.

This make the children lose conentration in classes, increase in school dropout rates, and sometimes stunted growth.

According to 2021 study by world food programme,

1.7 million children in Uganda do not have enough to eat, of these 1.2 million are primary School-aged Children. This means that approximately 38% of primary school aged children in Uganda need to have school meals that lead to concertration thus reducing hunger.

About her story;

"The dust-streaked halls of the UPE school echoed with the rumble of empty stomachs, including my own. Every day, hunger gnawed at my concentration, transforming lessons into blurry lectures and equations into indecipherable symbols. My mother, a tireless single parent, scraped together every shilling, but lunch fees remained a distant dream. My grades, like my stomach, remained empty.

Failure became my unwelcome companion. Discouraged but not defeated, I sought a different path. A short catering course opened a door to a new skill, and with it, an ember of hope ignited. Witnessing other UPE students grapple with the same hunger pangs I knew so well, the ember flared into a burning ambition: to nourish not just bodies, but minds and dreams.

In 2022, opportunity knocked. Jangu International, a beacon of social innovation, offered me a scholarship, recognizing the potential simmering within my story. It was a turning point. I poured my energy into developing a food supply business specifically for UPE schools in rural areas. I understood the challenge - parents struggling to afford meals. So, I bootstrapped, utilizing local resources and innovative solutions.

This wasn't just about food; it was about empowerment. Every plate filled meant a child could learn, grow, and dream without the gnawing ache of hunger. The impact was tangible - brighter eyes, improved attendance, and a renewed hunger for knowledge, not just food.

Today, alongside my incredible team, the journey continues. We're not just feeding children; we're feeding a movement. We're exploring diverse income streams to ensure sustainability and reach more children, not just in Mpigi, but across Uganda. Our dream is as vast as the potential within every child, fueled by the belief that no stomach should ever hinder a mind.''

This is more than a story; it's an invitation. Join us in this journey. Together, let's rewrite the narrative, where education thrives not despite hunger, but because it is fueled by the power of nourishment. Let's unlock the potential within every child, one nourished mind at a time.

Our programs

Imagine a child, eager to learn but held back by an empty stomach. Imagine a parent yearning to provide, yet struggling to make ends meet. This is the reality for many families in Mpigi, especially single mothers. But One Young Generation is rewriting this story, one nourishing meal at a time.

We tackle hunger through a multi-pronged approach:

Nourishing Schools:

Our food supply program ensures students receive wholesome meals at UPE schools, fueling their minds and bodies for learning.

Beyond the Classroom:

We offer dinner packages through the "Feeding a Child Camping for a Term" initiative, providing much-needed support during school breaks.

Empowering Parents:

Soon, we'll launch our fish farming project, offering wages and empowering parents, particularly single mothers, to care for their families and contribute to their children's education.

We're not just serving meals; we're building brighter futures:

Improved attendance and academic performance in students receiving our meals.

Alleviated financial burden on families, allowing them to focus on their children's well-being.

Sustainable income opportunities for parents through our fish farming initiative.
